Red Oxygen is a performance installation and exhibition about interwovenness, the restorative power of breath and a metaphor for the oxygen that the artist needs. Throughdance performances of 40 minutes each, choreographer Pé Vermeersch examines the importance of breathing and the connection between the vulnerability of the earth and the body. The lamentation, as an extension of breathing, is given a special place. The performance loops take place in the middle of an exhibition of monumental red berber fabrics and visual work by contemporary artists. Red Oxygen came about as an aesthetic, healing rearrangement of the paradoxical Covid-19 pandemic.
This danced exhibition is the result of a long collaboration between choreographer Pé Vermeersch and art historian Paul Vandenbroeck, creators of among others the unique exhibition and experience ENCOUNTERS (2017) in the MAS, Antwerp.

KADOC – KU LEUVEN 21 JUNI 20u en 21.30u : Pé Vermeersch – NIGHT AND DAY – Voor het project Beloved Bodies van Sander Vloebergs waagt danseres – filosofe Pé Vermeersch zich aan een uitdagend experiment. Pé maakte al een heel reeks voorstelling voor het orgelrepertoire zowel voor concertzaal als voor kerk. Hier brengt ze middeleeuwse mystica Christina the Astonishing als narratieve laag binnen in haar danstaal die op, overgave, onvoorspelbaarheid en hypersensibiliteit en complexiteit is gebaseerd.. Kernwoorden van haar parcours die als het ware op het lijf van Christina zijn geschreven. Christina de wonderbaarlijke was een middeleeuwse mystica 1150-1224 uit Sint Truiden en waarop ook Nick Cave één van zijn mooiste nummers baseerde. Pé herwerkt dit nummer samen met electronica componist Peter Clasen en kiest daarmee voor het eerst voor een registratie ipv live orgel. Nog vorig week was ze te zien met de prachtige live muziek van Correa de Araujo met een reeks concerten in de begijnhofkapel te kortrijk , samen met organist Jan Vermeire.
